clutch pedals to use for 700R4 to T56 swap
clutch pedals to use for 700R4 to T56 swap
I recently purchased a 87 Iroc with a 700R4 installed and it came with a T56 from a 95 TA. I have been reading all of the posts I could find on doing this swap an would like to hear from those of you that have used all 4th gen pedals and hyd systems and those that have used 3rd gen pedals and the Cavalier slave cylinder. The motor is supposed to make 510Hp so the clutch will be on the heavy side. Because of this I am thinking the 3rd gen and cavalier slave might be a better choice. I would be interested in good, and bad experiences or thoughts on these and any other configurations that have been done. I do have the hydraulics from the 4th gen but have to buy the pedals so I am flexible at this point.
Thanks in advance!

i converter my car like 8 yrs ago before evryone new everything and i used all the stuff from the 4th gen (94 t/a) it was pretty simple had to switch pedals cut one hole for the slave and drill 2 holes for bracket, there was even a factory template pop out hole in the carpet. and had to bang a small dent in the wheel well under the master cylinder it was time consuming as we were learning and figuring it out but pretty simple, the car has been daily driven and through tons of abuse and i've not had a single problem. use the 4th gen stuff. the dent in the wheel well is not even noticable unless i point it out

DONT USE THE FACTORY CUTOUTS!!!! I recently did a lt1/t56 swap, cut the holes out and ruined 2 master cylinders before I realized the holes were wrong.
There are 2 bars (on 3rd gen clutch pedal assembly) that attatch to the pedal assembly and go to the firewall to help support the master cylinder. Push them TIGHT to the firewall and that will give you your u-bolt mounting points. Then Hole saw a hole right in the middle. Then you have to take a rasp and wallow it out on the top to make it an oval so the master will sit properly.
4th gen pedals will work and have those supports permenantly mounted to the pedal assembly but you will have to modify the Brake booster mount holes a little. Took me 3 masters to figure this out lol. One bar bent, the other just blew out the seal and leaked out all over my foot.

Yea, I used the factory hole locations but they did not line up. It ended up about 3/4-1 inch too far to the right which made the rod go in at an angle which in turn blew the seal in the 1st one and bent the rod in the second one. That is when I learned that there are support bars
lol. Works great now

Thanks for the feedback guys. I did just come across a good deal on a 4th gen pedal assembly so I think I will go that way. Slowly getting the pieces together.
