T-56 swap master cylinder issues
Hey there, so I'm in the process of hooking up the hydraulics and the it seems like the master cylinder rod is too short to hook up to the clutch pedal. I've looked at the swap threads and haven't seen much about this, so not sure whats up. Was looking at threading it to make it adjustable but I've heard issues about that. Anyone know about this? I was thinking about just buying a new stock replacment since it is a used part to see if that is an issue.

Should not be too short if the master was installed in the correct place. Pics would help. I just did my swap and learned ALOT the hard way.

OK, I'll see if I can get pics soon. Car is currently locked up in my mechanics shop for the night. Once I can get back out there to work on it this week I'll get some pics. Would you happen to have any pics of your clutch/master cylinder setup for reference? If not, no worries.

Re: T-56 swap master cylinder issues
Terrible picture but the first time I installed everything I went by the factory cutouts in the rubber backing. Ended up toasting 2 masters. Blew seals in #1 and bent the rod in #2. Found the support bars that mount to the pedal assembly, installed them then reinstalled the assembly. I pushed the supports all the way against the firewall and found they were about 3/4 to an inch too far to the right and down so the rod was going in at a bad angle. Redrilled correct holes and NO issues since.
However, even being that far off, the master rod still reached plenty far. You may have to push in the clutch pedal some to attach to the rod but dont push in on the rod itself if the slave is out of the trans.

Thanks, Maybe I installed the pedals to far away, I'll see if that's the issue. I figured it wasn't the master since all the swap threads never said anything about extending the rod on the master to work properly.

I dont believe its possible to mount the pedals too far away. They only go in one way and to my recolection have no adlustments.
And the black crap in the pic is silicone caulking to seal it up completely and cover the extra holes. Didnt feel like patching it with sheet metal like I should have ... too tight and a PITA.

Re: T-56 swap master cylinder issues
Is it possible your master cylinder rod is partially depressed into the master cylinder?
And the pedals mount to the firewall? The whole assembly is a fixed distance from the firewall... are you using third gen pedals?

Re: T-56 swap master cylinder issues
I think the master may just be bad (depressed into the cylinder), I was looking at it today, (sorry I forgot to take my camera this morning) and the pedals are where they are suppose to be, I waiting on a master cylinder to arrive at autozone later this afternoon to pick up. It can't hurt to put a new one on regardless so I'm hoping thats the cure.

How much length of travel does your clutch pedal have?

ALOT... comes all the way to the top. Releases near the top which is why most people go with an adjustable like Tick. I for one, cannot afford that so I deal. But I also dont have to push the clutch all the way in to engage the gears. Idont mind, IT WORKS!!!!
