Re: diy differential girdle
I supposed you could try to mimic what the aftermarket does with strengthened support to help apply pressure to the main caps.

Re: diy differential girdle
The stock covers are such thin metal, anything you weld to it would need to go all the way to the mounting bolts to do much good. At that point, you might as well build the whole thing from scratch like the 4x4 guys do for strength.

Not to underestimate the fabrication capabilities of some of the people here on this site but there really is no way to even come close to this L.P.W. cover.I have one and have seen the quality first hand. There is no comparison between the stock cover and the L.P.W. cover no matter what you try to do. They don't even recommend a paper gasket when using there cover and only to use silicone as to prevent even the minuscule amount of cover deflection a gasket could cause. Scroll over the small images about middle of this page and you will see what I mean. They are a good 1/2in. thick.

Re: diy differential girdle
I think I might just break down and buy a cover from TA performance or LPW

Here's a little something L.P.W. offers to be added to the Ultimate Cover.Probably over kill but still kind of cool.

Axle-Tube Brace

The LPW Axle-Tube Brace eliminates case distortion on any width rear end by preventing forward movement of the housing tube ends. Additional stress on bearings, axles and suspension components is also relieved, further ensuring correct wheel alignment. Maintaining proper wheel alignment increases performance and provides even tire wear. Each side of the LPW Axle-Tube Brace is independently adjustable using high-quality, right- and left-hand rod ends.
