Is this the cam you are running?

Can you give some of the specs for your car?

What gear ratio are you running?

Are you just building your car to be a fast street car, street/strip car?

Are you going to stick with the 700r4 or another kind of automatic trans?

Those factors all should be taken in to account when you select a stall.

350 bore/stroke to 383

3:73 rear gears
going to stay with 700R4
has shift kit
Builders said car will have over 400 maybe to 450 if tune right.

Re: What torque converter to get

Check with some of the converter people too and let them know what your specs are for you car.

I think that stock stall is low, maybe around 1500rpm to 1700rpm.

For that set up you may be happy with a stall around 2200rpm to 2500rpm to start with. You may want to go a little higher than that. Depends on what you like and what would be a good converter for your set up.

The higher the stall the looser the motor will feel. Since you have 3.73's with a 700r4 you are going to have a real easy time getting the motor wound up high in the powerband. Especially in 1st and 2nd gear in the 700r4.

Re: What torque converter to get

The shop that is rebuilding the motor said a good stall would be around 2800 but it seemed a little high to me but its seems like hes in the right range. Any suggestions on company of stall to get? I have all the cam specs and intake specs along with the heads specs with me.

CC503? What are the specs on the heads? I can't believe no one asked this.

Reason is the 503 is very popular in the LT1 scene as well as the cc306. Alot of us run as big as 4k stalls with these setups. Hell im running a Yank SS3600 with the stock LT1 cam and love it.

Re: What torque converter to get

That camshaft needs a converter to stall around 2300 rpm for street strip use or 2800 for full race. Anywhere below 3000 should be fine.

Re: What torque converter to get

Hell i've run 2800 in a stock L98 with great success and would have gone 3000 if I could do it over again.

Need to know what heads for sure, and what intake? That dictates the power band on this motor. It wont be a high rpm screamer with only 224 deg cam in a 383 so for mix of street strip, i'd go 2800-3000 and be done. more street, lean to the smaller side.
If you never driven a stalled car before, this will be a big wake up for you so be careful with it and take your time getting used to it. 2800 is a great speed for a torquey lower rpm motor thats mostly street driven. You got enough rear gear so dont need alot of stall.

I daily drive a LS1 car with 3200 and wish I went 3600-3800 for best track use but 3200 is nice on the street. Its a little loose at times esp going up hills but at the track it moves well.

Whats your budget? I have run several Edge racing converters and always had good results with them. Edge in my LS1 car now. Its a looser feeling 3200 stall but seems to work well. They run about 550 bucks.

More expensive would be Vigilante, Precision, PTC, Circle-D, and some others. Stay away from the cheap brands like Revvmax etc that are 300 bucks and cheaper. Remember to get lockup style for the 700r4

Re: What torque converter to get

I'm running 2500rpm stall now on my stock L98 with full exhaust from the headers back. I like the combination.

Re: What torque converter to get

Im running the stealth ram intake on the car budget is around $400-$500 but if cheaper wouldnt mind. The heads are aluminum patriots with a port and polish job with 1:6 rockers. rpm range is up to 5800 on cam 6000 on intake and heads.
