Re: Transmission swap questions.

Are you sure it is a T56? I thought all 4th gen V6 cars got the T5 still.

No.

It's a 6-cyl.

Those parts won't fit your V8.

Re: Transmission swap questions.

v6 t5s have about an inch longer input shaft and the gear ratios are different( and crappy) from the v8 t5s

Re: Transmission swap questions.

'95 T5 has a 3.75:1 first gear, and a maximum input torque capacity of 230 ft-lbs. First gear would be useless with your 3.73:1 axle. V8-spec T5 has a 2.95:1 first gear.

Re: Transmission swap questions.

If it's a T56, the case should have 1386-xxx cast in it somewhere.

You really need to read the "my T56 swap" thread at the top of this forum and ask questions that aren't already covered there. It'll tell you a lot about the swap you might wonder and even more you hadn't considered yet. A 1995 T56 is one of the simplier ways to swap one into a third gen but not the only way.

Try and get an 88-92 V8 T5 from a third gen instead of the V6 T5 that was in the fourth gens.

A 1995 T56 from a fourth or V8 T5 from a third can be done without shortening the driveshaft.
