Transmission or brakes?
Transmission or brakes?
I just picked up a 1992 firebird I plan on restoring/fixing up.
It will be a new experience for me.
Well today I wanted to drive it around a bit, I put it in reverse and it shifted into gear just fine.
I go to the end of the driveway and hit the brakes, the car squealed (it came from the back end) the car then stopped and no matter what I put it in (drive/reverse) the car wouldn't move.
If I shut it off and turn it back on it shifts again, until I brake then nothing.
Does this sound like more of a brake or transmission issue.
Thanks

Re: Transmission or brakes?
Try shifting it into neutral & rolling it by hand. if you can't, it's very possible it's brakes. It might be the auto-adjuster hanging up.
Re: Transmission or brakes?
now it runs like it always has, my last question I guess is that I need to replace whole exhaust system.
Could the fact that it's not building up much back pressure cause it to need more gas to get it going?
I have to push the pedal down pretty far to get it going but after that it runs like normal.
But I noticed when its in drive or revers it needs gas to get moving, normally if it's in drive/reverse I let of the brake and I'm moving.
