NEED HELP Converting mechanical clutch to hydraulic clutch system!!
I have a 1982 firebird that i recented put a 5 speed transmission in it that came out of a 1985 firebird. my 82 was a mechanical linkage system for the clutch. need to know if i would need to purchase a new clutch pedal to attatch the ( i think its the ) slave cylinder too or is there another piece between that and the pedal. would i be able to mount it to the firewall in the same spot where the mechanical one came thru the firewall?

84 and newer pedals have a support brace or braces.
These are bolted down with the nuts that bolt the master-cylinder retaining u-bolt.
The master cylinders originally had a gasket on them which has the pattern of two small holes and a central large hole.
Putting these on the firewall and lining up the holes using your eyes, hands and brain shows you exactly where the hole belongs.
I think you'll find the hole is in the right place. But that process will confirm.

What he said...
You need the entire pedal assy from a 84-up car. The clutch pedal itself is different, the length of the pivot is different, and it has the ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL 2 little braces.
The existing hole is in about the right place, but has to be ovalled out slightly; downward and toward the center especially, if memory serves. 2 bolt holes have to be drilled. The little gasket that comes with your brand-new hydraulics from GM can be used as the template, once you get the right location for it based off the holes in the 2 little braces.

You could add a stud to your existing pedal.

But I think later pedals had a more reliable neutral safety switch.
Or you could use an 83 bellhousing.
