Re: zexel-torsen

I called SLP about 4-5 years ago or so and they no longer had any. The take-offs were from the cars they were modifying at their shop so once production stopped in '02 SLP quickly ran out of take-offs.

they're still available new at normal prices but those sales were from nearly a decade ago.

Re: zexel-torsen

The Zexel is the upgraded version and was never sold for $99. They took out the stock Torsens, which sold for $99, and installed a Zexel-Torsen in its place.

Re: zexel-torsen

@91 1le thanks for the correct. I have mostly been into trucks for the last 15 years and i never heard of the torsen or zexel. I just bought this camaro and im trying to build it up on the cheap, I ran across some old threads talking about it and it sounded like a perfect posi upgrade for cheap. But for me a powertrax would prob be best so I don't have to set up the gears(which is the only thing im a little scared of doing)

Not quite. Zexel was an earlier company name post-Gleason. The T2 and T2-R are the two common gear bias carriers which have been made for the small GM 10 bolt by "Torsen" the company.

1998 F-bodies with limited slip had an Auburn posi.
The SLP option that year was a Torsen of some sort. Not sure if it was the standard Torsen T2 (no clutch packs; just gear bias) or the T2-R (clutch pack friction limited slip built into a gear bias carrier.)

1999-2002 F-bodies had a T2 standard.
The SLP Option was an HD Auburn. Because of this upgrade by SLP, they had take-out T2 Torsen carriers for $99, among other take-out parts.

So sometimes, "upgrades" are merely "changes."

I don't remember if the stock 98 Auburns were sold as take-outs but it would be interesting to find that out for the thread about what SLP parts have been sold over the years.
