Th700r4 overhaul --> need your opinion...
Hi,
working on my first Th700 and need some input from 'those who know'... The reverse input drum shows wera in the middle (see pics). When checking with a feeler gauge it's up to (most places less than) 0.005" gap.
The ATSG manual only mentions to check for straightness and doesn't mention any tolerances...is this drum usable or shot???
The band shows wear in the middle and less/bo wear on the outside, makes me wonder if this could be caused by improper apply pin length?
Thanks for any help.

that is normal to happen on those drums. better safe to get a new one than chance using that one especially if using the extra wide band. we throw those away were i work. we don't allow any gap in the straight edge under the band surface. pin length has nothing to do with it. if the pin were to long it would bind the drum and if it were to short it would burn it up all the way across.

will be glad to help as i can. just be aware that i work in reman of transmission parts and not actual rebuild. i have built a few 700r4's for myself and friends. i can also help with parts interchange. if it comes to troubleshooting one, i'll help as i can but others such as Dana would most likely be a better source as he has built lots of these.

They can be reconditionedz(made flat again). Just by looking i'd ay the center of the band smoked because the surface wasnt flat. She's holding on the sides tho..

yes, they can be machined to be made flat again, but then you have to worry about adjusting the pin to engage the band properly. you can't machine them and put them back in without adjusting the pin.

Is there an alternative to check the pin length without the KentMoore tool I don't have?
Thanks for such fast answers!
