Clutch hydraulics not throwing far enough - T56 swap

I recently swapped a T56 from a 94 Camaro into my 87 Trans Am. The pedals i'm using are also from the camaro. My clutch hydraulics are not throwing the fork far enough and my clutch won't disengage. I can't get it into gear. Also, my clutch master is leaking at the dust boot. I tried a new master and it too seemed to be leaking. Anyone have any similar issues?

The leak needs fixed before the rest of the troubleshooting. The function of the master is key.

When you get that done, pull the slave, point it down but with out curving the line up. Plunge the slave several times. This lets air-bubbles go up to the master (as long as it's set up correctly to the pedal.) If it won't plunge by hand, the master is pre-loaded by the pedal and that needs corrected.

Go fix that leak and update your profile that still says 700-R4.

With preloaded he means the master is engaged a little and the compensation hole is closed off. In other words, the input rod is too long.

I don't believe the rod is too long. The first master i installed was a brand new GM part i got off of ebay. Is it possible that it could be defective? The second one i tried was an old one that i got with the trans and all the parts. It was leaking too. Perhaps it's just coincidence that they both leak? The old one was prob shot and the seal was blown, and the new one was defective? I just don't know what would make the new one leak? My rod angle isn't crazy or anything.

Sounds like you converted from an auto ??

The leak needs fixed before the rest of the troubleshooting.
+1.

If you converted from an auto to a stick the placement of the holes thru the firewall is EVERYTHING. If these holes are off - even just a little; you are going to have problems. ( bent rods or too short a throw ) There should be a rod type bracket on each side of the pedals. These brackets double as the mounting holes fore the hydraulic "U" bolt. When teh pedals are properly mounted in the dash housing these rod type brackets MUST be pushed COMPLETELY flush to the firewall -with no interference from padding/wires/ect - in order to properly align the "U" bolt mounting holes.

Replace your hydaulics and tripple check that those mounting holes are in the right place !

P.S. Do NOT push the clutch unless the slave cylinder is completely installed !

P.S.S. Are you using 4th gen hydraulics ?

I fixed the problem, finally. The "new" master i bought off of ebay was defective. I bought a new one from Advance Auto and it works fine. The bogus one blew after a few presses of the pedal. What a pos. Also, just to clarify, i did use the bracket that's on the brake pedal assembly to locate the holes for the master cylinder. Thanks for all your input guys.

Just an FYI, I doubt it was a "new" master cylinder. The LTx hydraulics from GM are sold as a complete unit. Master, slave and line. Pre-bleed.

Glad you got the issue fixed though!
