whinning/humming/thud when i get out of the gas

hey guys just bought a 1996 trans am, cheap and it has the lt1,4l60 and when im going down the road i kinda get this grindish feel under the car some place, and when i let off the gas it goes a little something like this "thud..weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..hummm..weeeeee" and when i get back on the gas it thuds but no more noise, even with my foot hardly on the gas it wont make it, but if im coasting its there. this may sound kinda dumb, it also kinda sounds like a jet engine in other words. please guys i dont want something bad to happen like the rear explode and i wreck, if its is the rear i was planning on a rebuild, or could this be U-joints??? any help would be great thanks guys.

But yeah sounds like the rear. May just be low on oil, check that and to see if it is leaking.
