What year 700r4s had the 27 spline?
I need to get a 27 spline torque converter for my new transmission and need to know what year gm vehicles with a v8 had a 27 spine transmission

1982-early '84,sometime mid '84 the switch to 30 spline input was done along with other upgrades.

thought the switch was made around 86 to the 30 spline? do you know what all cars came with the 700r4s and are the v8 torque converters interchangeable from different cars or do i have to get one from an f body

autozone has them very cheap , around 100 bucks for a new one dont bother with a junkyard unit

Right now I don't have the money for a new one and am trying to factor in every possibility I can so I can get my car back on the road. Being 17 with no job I can't go spend $100 on a converter plus 2 gallons of fluid, so it would be around $150 without a core. If I can get one cheap enough from a yard then I'm gonna atleast try too.

the 2004r used the same torque converter as early 700r4-2004r was made 1981-90 and often found behind 307 oldsmobiles and 250 cadillac v8s. besides contaminated fluid,look out for worn splines.

Yep. In your searching, look at 200-4R stuff.
I know you're on a budget, but if you can find a converter that has some advertised stall speed, a 2000-2200 is what higher-performance stuff had from the factory. Getting a 1600 low-po stall makes some cars miserable to drive in comparison.

found my converter, coming for a 83 buick lesabar 5.7 desil with a 200-r4. looked to be the same spline count as i need but cheaper than the camaros, $130 plus core on the 27 spline converter i needed. this one is $100 even with a $12 core. stalled up to 2200-2500

im getting a 1983 Buick Lesabre 5.7 Diesel torque converter to put behind my vortec 350 since i have the earlier 27 spline torque converter. does anyone know what the stall rating is on this converter? i cant find anything on the web. im running 3.42 limited rear end, 700r4 thats an early version, and a vortec 5.7 making around 300 hp and id say alittle over 350 torque.
If it's not really a modified stall speed, it might suck to drive compared to a good stock hi-po stall.

How do you count the splines? I just went and got my new torque converter for a 200r4 and it still won't fit but will fit the old trans fine, I counted the middles splines on both and came out to 28 teeth in both? Wtf I need help and fast

Never mind I figured it out, couldn't figure out why the torque converter would only go on the old transmission, well I found a diagram online on how to tell what year transmission I have and my new transmission is an 86 meaning 30 spline. Looked at my old junk one and it was an 84, meaning 27 spline. And it clicked. That's why the old and new 83 torque converter would only fit on the old junk transmission. But wouldn't fit on the 30 spline. The new 30 spline torque converter sat right in on the spline.
