Says nothing about being rebuilt. Just cleaned and looked at.

No, it sounds like the carrier was taken appart, looked over then put back together. Nothing mentioned about it being 'rebuilt' or even if its any good honestly.
Re: Thought Auburn's couldn't be rebuilt??
You can disassemlbe and reassemlbe the Auburn, but you can't rebuild it with new parts. When they wear out they are shot and only good for scrap metal. Auburn seems to have a way to rebuild them. I'm assuming that they have over size cones and they are boring the cases, but I wouldn't have one. I wouldn't use a brand new Auburn if it was free and I was getting sponsor money for using it.

Okay that adds a little more thought to my question. So they can be taken apart and reassembled but cannot be rebuilt? When they wear from normal usage does is actually "dig" into the metal casing? I hear all the time that they cannot be rebuilt, I guess I am just wondering why if one man made them why another man can't fix it ?

Yes, the cones eat into the case, which fills the rear end with powdered metal, which runs through all of the bearings and gears and ends up as sludge in the bottom of the housing and axle tubes. Auburn must have found a way to recondition them because I have seen a remanufactured Auburn unit from Auburn, or at least that was the claim.

Tonight I looked at this but unfortunatly it had a gov-loc and I passed. It was still a pretty good deal though. Kinda wondering if I should call guy back and let it sit in my garage till I got a better carrier.
$200

Not much of a way to tell by looking at it if it's all right or not. You could check the amount of backlash in the pinion gears, but if you don't have something to compare it to then that won't do you much good either. The more wear it has the more backlash will be in the pinion gears. As it wears the axle end play will also increase, so if it has a lot of axle end play then it has a lot of wear.
