diff problems??

Im not sure what it could be diff or axles? So when Im cruising and let off the gas my car jerks back and fourth? Ive had a car with a welded diff that did this but I highly doubt that with this diff. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks for any input

Re: diff problems??

Check all of the controll arm mounts and bushings and the transmission mount. Be sure that everything is tight and in good condition.

Do you have a standard differential or a LSD?

ok i will check those parts. i know i can jack up the diff, spin one tire and if both spin its lsd. other than this is there anything on the diff that can tell me its lsd?

Re: diff problems??

Should be a tag on one of the bolts in the cover that says use limited slip differential fluid only. Also G80 code on the RPO tag on the bottom of the console lid or back side of the spare tire cover. If you have the LSD then a oil change with the GM oil additive might help. Sometimes the oil gets old and causes the differential to pop and jerk some. This is only true with the LSD.

This is assuming that nothing has been changed in the rear end over the years. There is always the chance that someone has swapped the complete rear end or internal parts, so the only reliable way to tell is to remove the cover and look inside.
