Upgrading Servo-4th gear hold & ext pin
First i am very mechanically inclined,..Just Trannys make me nervous. So im looking for help please. Trans is in the car...I have already removed the OEM servo and other components. Theres instructions and i will read them carefully but i wanted to see if i needed to see if anyone wanted to share any precautions or any fine tuning to look for? in this kit i bought the longer pin but it has NO grooves on the PIN POINT area, why?

The groove indicate pin length. There is a special tool to determine which pin you need. If you don't have the tool you usually use the same length pin.
Re: Upgrading Servo-4th gear hold & ext pin
You can use a dial indicator along with feeling how hard the output shaft turns to set the length of the servo pin. I would just run the pin that was in the trans. I hope you're doing a shift kit/separator plate mods to compliment the new servo. (I would have gone with one of Dana's shift kits which comes with a corvette servo)

Probuilt's shift kits arn't like that. Smooth shifts that get progressively harder as you put the go pedal down.
Just because the pin is longer doesn't mean you should use it. It should really be checked but I would use the one that was in there.

Servo pin length has to be set with dial indicator, or correct GM J-tool ( I have the tool I can get the tool number for you, if you need it) Use the longest pin and file down to correct size.
I'm currently running Sunnex "Super Hold" second gear servo and Superior "Super Servo" 4th Apply servo and cover.
Heres good instructions on setting pin length:

Re: Upgrading Servo-4th gear hold & ext pin
Install the new servos without any seals and the original pin. If you have the pan off you will be able to see how much front to back band movement you have. You should be able to wiggle the band back and forth no less than 1/8 - 3/16 of an inch. This equates to apx. .060" - .080" movement when pushing in the servo cover. If you have much more than that then try the new pin. If you have less or no band movement (cannot get the snap ring back in). Then you will have to grind a little at a time till you get the minimum band movement. When grinding the pin you must keep the tip round as in the original pin, otherwise the band clearance will change very quickly. This will take a few minutes to do this right. Also the driveshaft will turn one way harder than the other. The hard way must not get any harder with everything installed. If it does, it shows there is to much dragging of the band. Make sure that the snap ring is smooth and the snap ring groove is very clean and that the ring is fully seated in the groove when done. The superior 4th servo has apx. 10% more apply area. The Sonnax 4th servo has apx. 40% more apply area. There is more you can do if the valve body is off to improve the 4th gear shift and or holding capacity. Minimum band clearance will help with the 2-3 shift.
