Identifying 4th gear switch for TCC

My Transmission is an '85. It is out of the car right now and I am taking off the pan to change the fluid and filter. How can I identify which 4th gear switch I have (normally closed or normally open) with it out of the car and not hooked up to the car. I understand that if it was in the car i could test for continuity.

Is there a visible way to tell?

I need to know so I can wire up my car for torque converter lockup without the ECM.

Doesn't need to be anywhere except in your hand
Put a DVM ( Ohm scale ) on it;
If switch has only 1 terminal , then meter between the terminal and the switch body ;
if it has 2 terminals meter between them

Thanks. I removed the switch just now and will take it to school tomorrow and try to ge tit tested. Just to clarify, I want it to not show anything? As in no circuit?

Okay I hooked it up to a volt meter (best that I can do) to check resistance. I'm getting fluctuations from 2-9 ohms. What do you think it's not very high? Does the presence of resistance mean its normally closed?

Re: Identifying 4th gear switch for TCC

SOUNDS LIKE ITS NORMALLY CLOSED. BUT WITH DIRTY CONTACTS. SHOULD BE INFINITE FOR OPEN AND EXTREMELY CLOSE TO 0 OHMS FOR CLOSED. (LIKE .ZERO TO .005 OHMS ) CHANGE IT OUT. ITS CHEAP. DOUBLE CHECK THE SCHEMATICS FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT ONE. DONT DO ANYTHING ON ANY CAR WITHOUT THE CORRECT SCHEMATIC.... DISASTER WILL FOLLOW.....ECM DESTRUCTION ETC....
