Trans Conv-switch

So I'm deleting vacuum lines and on my chart it shows a line going from my canister to "Trans Conv- switch" . I looked for the switch and there is a wiring harness with a vacuum diaphragm of sorts. Nothing really looked connected to it other than the canister. Do I need to worry about this thing? I have a 200r4

IIRC a vac switch was part of the convertor lockup wiring on early cars

Nothing is currently hooked up to the transmission.

Should I try to get it operational? If so how to I do it without hooking it up to the canister?

Re: Trans Conv-switch

So I hate to harp on this issue but I don't know too much about transmissions. So I have a couple questions.

1.What is the purpose of Transmission Lock Up
2. Can it be bypassed?
3. If not how much vaccum does it need or why is there a switch coming from my vaccum system?

If I can get any clearification on these issues that would be great. Thanks

Re: Trans Conv-switch

Lock up is for better fuel economy. Also it keeps the transmission from running on the stall speed of the converter in upper gears.
Since the Canada version wasn't control by the ecm, The vacuum switch unlocks the converter under full throttle type condition's. < Brake switch unlocks it too.

Theres lots of ways of wiring it up.

With a little research im finding that when there is less vaccum, the switch turns lockup off. but with vaccum it turns it on (ie cruizin speeds). So im just going to skip the switch and run the lockup vaccum line to the one sticking out the back of the bottom of the carb down at the manifold.

I only have stuff on the 700r4. Haven't noticed any info here on the 200, but the corvetteforum & turbobuicks has some info and pics. (do a google image search)

You sure the thing isn't lockup now? Maybe the PO already did something to it. Also, probably no big deal if you have like 3.73 gears..... 2.73's, you would need the lockup working for sure.

But, yeah... the switch needs to see manifold vacuum.
