VSS "bullet" and driven gears not removable in '86 Firebird with T5?
I recently went from 2.73 to 3.42 gears in my 86 Firebird
Found out (afterward) that the original metal shaft/plastic gears are not available, but could be swapped over using TH350 bullet and plastic gears.
Well - I pulled the VSS off my 86 Today, and it looks like my assembly is all one unit - the bullet and the sensor don't look like the come apart. In fact, I can't see any way to disassemble it at all.
Anyone know if this is normal? Am I just missing something?
I need to get those gears changed because my speedo is way off!
Thanks!

That's where you add what your vehicle is.
I'd have not provided info I did in you prior thread if you had 86 F-bird indicated.

A VSS is completely different to a speedo drive ( TH350 style ) that uses the bullet and gears with a shaft on them .
On a VSS you just slide the gear off the shaft and replace it; no dis-assembly required
If you are swapping to a cable speedo then you use nothing from the VSS

Correct. My car has a VSS not cable drive. My setup doesn't look exactly like that, but similar.
I'll fill that out.
I don't see how that gear comes off... mine slides up and down, but doesn't appear to actually come off?
So now what do I do? Where do I get a 20 tooth gear for this unit?

If they're he same height as a 215/65R15 you're fine with a 20.
If they're more like the height of a 195/75R14 or 205/70R14, go with a 19.
Might have a 19 w/ steel shaft (remove it to use on a VSS) if you're looking for one.
The inner diameter of the gear has a ridge that holds it on the VSS and the flat side to prevent spin.

my 86 with 700r4, the stock plastic gear just slides of the sensor shaft.
I bought my gears off ebay as they were discontinued from gm.

Didn't find the 19, only a 21 and 22.
