The pedals have supports that extend to the firewall and locate the 2 mounting holes fr the master cylinder. Once you have them just need to make an oval hole centered between the two which you can rough measure off with the master

Re: t5 pedals firewall template
if your car still has the factory carpet installed pull the carpet back in the upper left floor area, there is actually an area to push out for the factory master cylinder to pass through that will make a perfect template. It is in the exact location you will need to make your hole for the master cylinder and drill the 2 holes for the brace, you simply need to pull the carpet back and use it as a template and mark the spot with a sharpie. It worked perfectly for me several years back when I did my 5 speed swap. If you do a search you can probably find pictures of what I'm talking about. Good luck!

Re: t5 pedals firewall template
Just a warning. I used that template to cut my holes for my swap. I then installed 4th gen pedals. My clutch master cylinder push rod is at a very bad angle and ruins my clutch master cylinder. I'm about to change my master for the second time in two years. Also my firewall has cracked and pushes out. I'll be repairing it this weekend. The forth gen pedals mount the rod on the left side of the pedal causing the bad angle. I'm going to try to move the mount stud to the other side of the pedal.
In short I'd try to find 3rd gen pedals.
