700R4 TCC question

I've googled and searched and searched again but I am stumped...

I just installed the Transgo 700-2&3 kit in my early 27 spline 700R. I only installed this kit because the trans is in my Jeep with a double transfer case and I do not want the trans slamming into gear when I am doubled at 7:1 in the transfer case. I purchased this trans used but supposedly recently rebuilt so I expected things to be something other than OEM under the pan. I dropped the TCC solenoid down only to have more room to work and discovered a .250" check ball in it. Why would this be in there? I can't find any reference to anything other than installing a 3/8" ball to force immediate lockup after the 1-2 shift. I have no idea what the previous owner did to this tranny when they rebuilt it. All of the wires and switches are still on the VB. The trans was behind what I am only assuming was the original truck 4.3L V6 when I bought it. The 4.3L was converted to propane so I am guessing the factory ECM was not used. The only sticker on the TC says "8653702". A quick google search suggests that to be the original truck/van lockup TC so I do not think this trans has been converted to run without the lock-up. Right now I am about to fire this beast up but am hesitant to button up the trans pan and fill with fluid just to have to drain it all down to yank the ball in the TCC solenoid. I have a trail ride this coming Thursday that I have to be ready for and would really like to take this thing at least for a spin around the block before I load it up on the trailer so if anyone knows anything that could help please hurry?

Thanks.
