Is there any difference between our 700R4's and the 4wd models out of trucks?

Just wondering if there is a difference. Looking at needing a new tranny and lots of truck transmissions for sale but no car ones.

I'm not 100% sure about internally, but externally the tailshafts are completely different. You can change it to match, but you have to take the entire trans apart to do it along with changing the output shaft.

Thanks. I'm looking for a good core from 88-92 to replace my 84 that is starting to slip.

The guts are the same but the output shaft needs to be swapped
Not a problem if you are going to get it rebuilt but,
if you are using it for a core ,check the rebuilder will accept a 4wd version in exchange for the reg version

The 4 WD models use the heavy duty K case which uses a rigid aluminum dust cover to keep the bdllhousing from cracking. Itll still fit but you can't use the original sheet metal cover

find a 1987 or later core.most of the 700r4 design flaws fixed by then.
