Gear 2.73 to 3.73

Did GM ever put a 3.73 gear in 3rd. Gen. Camaro or TA. Looking at the Tech board I would guess NO. I have friend with a TA that he is going to junk. Its a 87 with 5 speed manual, center console gone for RPO info. Can anyone tell from VIN: 1G2AW87H1EL216026 what gear, thinking 3.42.

Thanks

The RPO tag might be on the back of the spare tire cover.

Re: Gear 2.73 to 3.73

Yes they put 3.73 in some; the L69 5-spd cars specifically.

However, your car has the H motor, the LG4. The low-perf one. And an auto trans to boot. Would have come with AT MOST 3.23 gears and most likely 2.73. Which of course is not to say, it doesn't HAVE 3.whatever you think it does; only, it didn't COME like that.

All of this of course is just a bunch of Internet monkey-spank. The car HAS what it HAS.

It's eeeezy enough to find out. Since you're asking this tiresome question, you obviously haven't changed your rear end fluid. It obviously NEEDS that. So while you're catching up on some of your "deferred maintenance", make a point of LOOKING AT what's IN THE CAR. Then you'll know for absolutely positively take-it-to-the-bank 100% ironclad guaranteed CERTAIN what gears you have. Until then, .... it's all Internet monkey-spank.

And of course that'll save us from the next tiresome question that comes with the same answer; "do I have posi". Please don't post that, go find out for yourself instead.

Never heard of Elderbrock headers BTW; you sure they're not Edelbrock?

You sure can SPELL, however you can not read. My post was referencing a JUNKER a friend has which was the VIN I posted and it has a 5 speed manual. I know what my car has, I have taken it apart and put it back together. Your reply is exactly why I reframe from asking questions on forums. You need to take a break?????

Then look in the rear in question. Doesn't matter whether it's "your" car, or some other car; the answer is and will remain the same.

This is the kind of person I "reframe" from helping. (I assume you mean "refrain"?????)

I agree, the ONLY way to know for sure what is in the rear end is to remove the cover and look at it. Anything could have been changed over the years, so codes can be unreliable.

Re: Gear 2.73 to 3.73

3.73's were available from the factory until the end of 86.

An 87 LG4 stick should have 3.23's.
