1987 Camaro Stuck in Gear and Other Problems

Hey everyone. Just went up to barrie and bought a mint 1987 camaro with a 2.8L motor. Only 116000 on it. It has a trannie problem though, and I will try to explain it the best I can.

WE are thinking that Its transmission is stuck in gear. When you start it, when you take your foot off the brake, even with the ebrake on, it starts to roll foreward. Now that arouses different problems. If its in gear, why does it start (if the neutral safety switch is on the shifter itself, then that makes sense, because the shifter was in park when we started it). When we move the shifter, the cable moves, but the lever on the transmission does not move. We were also able to roll the car while it was in gear by hand. Finaly, when trying to manually shift the transmission into and out of gears (we wanted it in neutral so we could push it), multiple settings didnt change the fact that is still wants to roll forward. Dad put it into what he thought to be neutral, but when it was on the ground, we fired it up and forward it goes. Any one have any ideas about what that is all about? Thanks

Re: 1987 Camaro Stuck in Gear and Other Problems

As of now, my tech teacher and my dad thinks that it is something internal, because the arm on the outside of the transmission will not manually shift the transmission. If it is internal, which parts would be the cause of this problem, and how could we diagnose it?

Thanks
