Different speed sensor...
Going to pick n pull on thursday to get a transmission to put in my 91 z28 tpi so i can drive the car while waiting to rebuild the tranny in the car but im not sure what cars, trucks, vans, or suvs i should look at for the tranny. I know camaros, firebirds and astro vans have the 700r4 but what do you guys recommend pulling it from?

Re: What to pull from...
there are a ton of things out there with a 700r4, (to many to list)they were even in trucks,(the 4wd may not be the same, but all others are) so just ask them, and try to pull one from a crashed one, at least you know why it is in the scrap yard ... if you are lucky, you can get one out of a crashed vette ( think they changet all cars and trucks over to the 4L60 and 4L60e somewhere in the early 90's, but not sure what year for sure)

Re: What to pull from...
found this at boxwrench.net ... The 700R4 transmission was used in GM cars and light trucks with the 2.8, 3.1, 4.3, V6 motors and chevy built 305 and 350 small block V8 engines up until 1993, before becoming the 4L60E. It was offered in 2WD and 4WD versions.
It was first used in 1981 for Chevy and GMC cars and trucks and made from cast aluminum weighing about 155 pounds. By 1990 it was renamed the 4L60 and by 1992 it became electronically controlled with a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and was renamed the 4L60E

Wouldnt you have to pull one from an F-body to be able to use the torque arm mount?

Re: What to pull from...
EDIT: it does seem to be that there are 3 tailshafts for the 700r4, so unless you want to use a couple of clamps to hold it for a short time, you may have to get one from a 3rd gen f-body, or just pull your tailshaft off and put it on the one you are going to pickup (tell the shop not to put the new seal in the shaft you send them, so you have a new one when you swap it back) ... thank you InfernalVortex for correcting that

Re: What to pull from...
So i pulled the tranny from a 89 Chevy Silverado and ran into a problem. When changing the tail shaft i noticed the VSS is different the one on the tail shaft from the camaro is gear driven the one on the tail shaft from the truck is a magnet style...

Re: What to pull from...
if it is like a th350, you have to pull the shaft out the front ... if you just need it for a short time while you have one rebuilt, i would just drive it without the soeedo
