best trans for my v6?
I have a 2.8l v6 that's modified with a non wc t5. I was wonder is there a better granny I can slap in besides a wc t5. I also plan on circuit racing, and possibly super or turbo charging my car. what are my options here. I prefer a standard tranny. Thanks in advance!

What do you mean when you say 'better'? Do you not like the gear ratios? Are you worried about breaking the trans?

Pretty much more breaking the transmission. I like the gears, but I wouldn't mind if a t56 could be slapped in. or a tko t5. I heard about a asin or the supra transmission but the thread didn't get any further then that.

If you're concerned with possibly breaking the trans what are your long term goals for the car? Right now, I'm sure you are far from the limits of the transmission, and even with boost, you'll still be within the limits of the trans on a stock bottom end.

Pretty much I want it to be my daily driver and last the occasional track days. I may bore out the motor but pretty much that's about it, besides the forced induction.

boost even on a stock 2.8 will make more tq then a l98 tpi engine , the t5 will not last if he gets traction

I've never had one of these motors, how much boost can a stock 2.8L handle? How much torque can a stock 2.8L bottom end hold?

Re: best trans for my v6?
some ppl report u will split the block at 400 hp , but the only time this happens is when its extreame duration of high rpms , like those found when theese engines were used in dirt track midget cars , were they would be run at a sustained 6,800-7k+ rpms
gm rates the rotating assembly for 7,000 rpm and 400 hp out of the factory
now the carbed 2.8 engines have a small journal crank, these are prone to breaking even in stock form

Re: best trans for my v6?
So you can boost this engine to 400 horse without opening the block?

Re: best trans for my v6?
almost , in order to get that much hp out of one it needs a cam and ported heads , u could do it with stock stuff but u would need to run alot mor eboost presure with untouched heads and cam
the other thing to consider is the milage of the engine , a low milage engine will have really tight ring gaps which will cause issues at high boost
an engine with 100k on it will have looser ring gaps, and u could prolly get away with it , but if the engine itself is in overall bad shape it wont last long
