Re: suggestions please

You're really gonna wake up that 383 with a 3.73 gear set. Do you want to upgrade the entire thing to something stronger, or keep it budget and rebuild the 10 bolt?

As far as a commuter car, i would say a 3.42 is the best of both worlds.

3.27 or 3.45 9 bolt.

The t 5 will probably break before the next rear end does.

Re: suggestions please

Do you know what 5th gear you have? That will make a big difference on the highway. Most V8 T5s had .63 5th, but some of the high performance ones had .75

Re: suggestions please

A V6 T5 is probably going to have .73. I would prefer the V8 box with .63 like you said.

I'm doing a bit over 20mi one-way with 3.73 gears and .67 OD. I would go 3.42 if I had your commute (and was going to keep it but I hope you have a good job or can shorten your commute some day )

i was referring to a third gen rearend.i has one from a third gen v6 car before i swapped in the forth gen rear to match my vette wheels.the v6 rears are identical to the v8 rears but with better gearing.

Re: suggestions please

v8 t-5 cars got 9 bolts with 3.45 gears.

v8 autos with 9 bolts had 3.27 gears.

IMHO 3.27 would be great for your set up and needs.

9 bolts also have disc brakes, and are a little stronger then the 10 bolt by most accounts.

AFAIK all the 9 bolts in our cars were posi as well.

Re: suggestions please

they're about an inch taller than stock 16" third gen tire sizes. Yeah it's noticeable (if you were to go from one size to the other.)

It will slow down your engine a small amount compared to stock tires. But I still wouldn't go with 3.73 to compensate.
