Could Timing effect tranny shifting?

I just finished my holley ecm swap and it wanted the timing set at 20 degrees advance. After that my tranny doesn't seem to be shifting right. It use to shift hard into 2nd now hardly a peep. I don't have the plug for TCC connected at all right now does it do anything besides the tcc lockup? It also wasn't down shifting the way it use to.
