Would this ring and pinion fit?

I have a 91 Camaro RS and the rear end is stock. I was going to keep the 3.08 gears and bought a 4th Gen Camaro carrier. However, I changed my mind and now want 3.42. I was wondering if this ring and pinion would fit the carrier and the rear end. By the way, the car has a 28 splines.

What gears were on the 4th gen differential? If it's a 2 series then it will work. If it's a 3 series then it won't work.

Re: Would this ring and pinion fit?

4th gen carriers are (like third gens) 2-series if 2.73 or 3.08.
And they're 3-series if 3.23 or 3.42.

Summit shows " Carrier Series: 2 " on those 3.42 gears. So, the gears you linked are a 3-series ratio but thicker to work with a 2-series carrier. So they will work with a carrier from a 2.73 4th gen, for example.

Old post with a good pic of 2 vs 3 series: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...i-carrier.html

Your stock 28 spline axles will work with a 4th gen carrier.

Why does it say 27 spline count instead of 28?

27 is the pinion gear spline count

Re: Would this ring and pinion fit?

Correct, 27 splines on the pinion shaft, not the axles.

Would you go with the thicker gears? Or with a spacer?

Re: Would this ring and pinion fit?

DO NOT use a spacer. They create HUGE problems. If you have a 2 series differential then use the thick gear, or get a 3 series for the standard gear.

That's what I thought! Thanks for all the advice!
