T56 swap now what rear gears??

1990 gta L98 now with T56 LT1 style..

I have 3.23gears now but not right for the T56, so 3.42/3.73/4.10 are my choices..

I am leaning to 3.73 so I can actually use 6th gear.

My driving is to car shows and longer drives.. no autocross or 1/4 mile.

any one actually have experience in this area.?

thoughts??

thanks
Mike

Many people use 4.11 gears with the .5 overdrive. You will need a good drive shaft to prevent a vibration around 70 MPH.

Would totally eliminate 3.42s as a choice though. They suck in my 99. 6th is useless, unless being under 2,000 rpm at 80mph is appealing to you.

Re: T56 swap now what rear gears??

I did the T56 swap a few months ago and I went with 3.73s. I'm loving them. In my old Formula I had 4.10s behind a T56 and the were great for drag racing, but a little much for cruising. 3.73s have my vote.

Re: T56 swap now what rear gears??

OK sounds like 3.90 would be ideal-
however- I have a 10 bolt so back to 3.73 vs 4.10.
I have 245-50/16 stock height tires.

I am leaning toward 3.73.

Re: T56 swap now what rear gears??

It is. And Summit lists two different sets of Motive 3.90 gears for the 7.5" 10 bolt.

Before you order, you might also want to make sure your T56 isn't a 1993 version.

Re: T56 swap now what rear gears??

see why I come here, did not realize 3.90 was an option
3.90 seems to be the right choice for me.
trans was from 1996 Camaro so it is .5 OD
