!!!!YANK Converter Install Problems!!!!!
Hey.
I was putting in my Yank 3200 last night and i couldn't get it to seat all the way onto the input shaft.
It would engage the smaller first set of teeth of the imput shaft, but would not engage the larger second set. It would just skip along them but not slide into them. I rotated it many, many times with no luck. Shouldn't it just slide on like the stock one?
I have never put in a "new" converter, only reinstalled stock ones a few times, so I don't know if this is because the new converter is "tighter" as far as the teath not being broken in yet?
I took it off and put the stock one on and it seated all the way in with no problem at all.
From what i can see, the teeth inside the converters are the same in size, count, and location.
Can't think of what the problem is, please help me out. thanx

the only teeth outside the converter are the 2 for the lockup, they are not the problem. Its the small teeth inside the coverter that mate with the input shaft.
I have not done it myself but from what I have heard a lot of performance converters are harder to get on. I think you just have to make sure to get it on. And by the way, I wouldnt file anything on such an expensive part if if did not say to. If there was something wrong and it did not fit properly I would send it back and get another. The thought of grinding on one of those gives me chills.

dont file down on it!!!! new performance converters are a VERY tight fit, stock converters will just slap on, good performance converters you need to line up perfectly and give them a bit of force to get in correctly, it will fit, just give it some elbowgrease.

Don't worry, i wasn't about to file anything.
That is good to hear.
Would some grease on the input shaft help any? Tranny fluid a better choice?
thanx for the help.

look people I didn't say take a grinder to it I said file the edges.I had the same prob with my converter. The trans place where I had my converter built said some times you have to round the edges to get the converter to slide into the front pump.Because you could have nicked the pump drive when trying to install the new converter.Or has gotten nicked in shipping.
i had to pick up on the bottom of the converter to get mine to slide in. aftermarket converters are very tight. try supporting the bottom of the converter while spinning it. sometimes it helps to kinda wobble the converter while spinning.

Thanx guys.
Guess what. There was no problem to begin with, i found out.
The cover of the TC was rubbing on the front of the tranny on a little raised section. I could tell by the paint that was rubbed off on it.
I couldn't tell if it seated all the way last night because it was dark.
When i snug it up to the flexplate it will not rub at all.
So actually the yank went on very easily after all.
Better than actually having a fitment problem.
