Torque Converter Opinion
So I know a lot of you guys frown upon the cheap torque converters as I've heard why. This one seems fairly decent especially for the price. The reviews seem to be good... How are FTI torque converters? Specifically this one: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/f...lt30/overview/

Re: Torque Converter Opinion
You get what you pay for. I learned this the hard way.
Its a basic cheapo converter. All depends what you are trying to do. If you are wanting performance then dont do it. If you are trying to get back on the road and need a converter, then it will probably be okay.

Alright thanks. I didn't plan to race or anything with it but it is a fun daily driver in the summer... if this snow would clear up... I guess my money would be better spent with a more performance orientated converter.

Re: Torque Converter Opinion
Got one for a 199x 4.3 L S10 and it has worked fine and I think it stalls up around 2200 and a lil more . Works great with a mild or stock V8 car and I think it was around $125-140 on Amazon. Well worth the $. If you haven't already go ahead and get a good shift kit put in that tranny while youre in there. Night and day difference.

Re: Torque Converter Opinion
I agree.
Im not trying to say that the converter you listed wont work, its just not a performance converter. It will work about as good as any cheaper converter, including an s10 converter like dmccain mentioned, but you will pay more for it.
Im running a cheapo 2500 stall converter from "the converter exchange" out in Tennessee. Its your basic cheap converter and it acts like it. It suits my needs for now and at the time I purchased it, I needed it and didn't have the money to go for a good unit.

Go to www.rockauto.com and get Part # B29DCNF. It's the 199X GM S-10 converter that dmccain mentioned above.
Better value than that one from Summit.

Re: Torque Converter Opinion
Thanks for the suggestions guys. How is the S-10 converter with drivability? Will I only notice it when getting on the throttle? To be honest I just bought this Trans Am last summer and I'm 16... I should probably focus on things like the peanut cam and exhaust first.

Re: Torque Converter Opinion
Believe it or not the S-10 TC will give you more bang for the buck seat-of-the-pants punch than a cam swap or exhaust work will.
I had one behind the peanut cam LG4 engine, and it was nothing but good; no downside whatsoever. Unless someone told you, you would not notice the additional stall; all you would notice is the snappy response when hitting the throttle.
Definitely do the exhaust work too. A full TPI system from manifolds to tailpipe will extend the powerband by a few hundred rpm. If /when you end up swapping cams, then headers would make sense.
