Re: t56 swap question

It requires rebuilding the trans with several different parts to turn it into a hybrid T56; the parts are like a GTO unit; the ratios would be C5.

If you have a 305 and 3.23 or 3.42 rear, do not bother going with the 2.66 ratios. Save up and change rear axle ratio. Or aim for the wider ratio gear set T56.

Or do the LS1 swap.

Re: t56 swap question

First thing would be to price the conversion parts to "GTO" it.
Skip the T5 for a higher torque third gen if you can T56 it.

Tremec Drivetrain parts can be bought cheaper in a time machine.

Re: t56 swap question

Can you even turn a C5 T56 into an LT1 T56 ? Are the input shafts compatible ? Presumably you want to bolt it to your existing Smallblock ?

If so you would need a new input shaft ($300) New LT1 front plate ($250) New F body rear housing ($300) , New mainshaft ($250), New shift rail ( $ ?). You can find most on ebay. Maybe you get lucky and get some deals ?

Oh ! And a new bellhousing too ($150-300)
