My rear differential installed
I reached another milestone in my build. I was finally able to get my complete rear end done. (Man, there's no way to say that without setting it up as a double entendre... anyways.) This was the next step in my build and a MAJOR purchase, which is why it took me so long to get here. I haven't worked on my car in almost 2 years! But I ordered a Strange 12-bolt from Spohn, all of the rear suspension components, and my rear brakes. The brakes were the last part I ordered. Once those were in, I could finally start putting it all together. With all the parts in, it took me 2 days to get everything put together and install it completely. I double and triple checked everything and meticulously pieced it all in place. The only thing left to do is install the sway bar end links. Those had to be measured with the complete rear suspension loaded. I ordered them and they should be here in a few days. Then the entire rear will be finished. Then, I move on to the transmission and finish the build with my engine. Here are some pics I took during the install.

That's really nice. How much did it cost for the rear-end?...

If ya dont mind me asking what did that 12 bolt run you from Spohn and what did you go with for center and axles, I'm leaning towards a Strange 12 bolt instead of a moser 9"

Re: My rear differential installed
The rear diff cost just under 3 grand. It's the 93-97 F-body width so I can fit wider tires. It's 3.23 with Eaton posi. A really cool neighbor of mine has a Corvette and was kind enough to let me test fit one of his wheels on the rear. The tire is a 275 and there was still about 1.5" in the back to spare. I plan on going with 285's. The fit looks great!

looks AMAZING!!!
great work
I will be ordering a whole rear axle assembly and driveshaft in winter 2019. so I might be asking you some questions. I am pretty set on a 12 bolt setup.
please share details about axle splines, non c-clips, brake packages, etc. thanks

Hi, may be a little late for your post, but I'm doing the same thing, same strange 12 bolt & all, my question is did you install with torque arm mounted to differential or with out it. I tried without & rear twisted. If you could give details of you install, be greatly appreciated

Re: My rear differential installed
very awesome. well done
- i could be wrong but is your panhard bar on backwards? I put mine where the adjuster is up closer to the body mount (pass side) so it can be adjusted easier. the way you have it, it looks like the wrenches will interfere with the axle bracket mount metal when you go to loosen the jam-nuts and adjuster ? maybe maybe not?
I am about two weeks away from ordering my 12 bolt from moser.
-if you have a few minutes and felt like reading my thread here:

and advice you felt like offering would be helpful. thanks man
awesome build you have going on. i'm following along.

Re: My rear differential installed
Hey guys, thanks for all the compliments! I'm very proud to have gotten this far and have worked even harder to do so. I'm glad it is noticed. Anyways, I'll try to address all the questions.
So I went with a 12-blot instead of a Dana 60 or Ford 9" because the 12-bolt fit 3 parameters: it is completely appropriate for my 500+ HP goal, it is the easiest and most direct fit to install, and it was not as expensive as the others. I figured I probably shouldn't spend too much on a rear that can handle 1000 HP if I'm not going to go there.
The Strange 12-bolt does not use C-clips.
I did put the torque arm onto the rear diff first before I put the rear diff on the car. I figured it would be easier to manipulate and line up. Sure enough, it definitely helped!
The panhard bar is certainly on correctly. BMR advised to put the poly end attached to the body side and the rod end attached to the differential. That helps eliminate road noise. This also applies to the LCA's. Adjustment was not hindered by that placement.
Rear brakes? Well, Strange/Spohn is very easy to work with. You can basically tell them what brakes you want and they will put the correct housing ends onto the axles. All they need is the model number and manufacturer of the brakes you will be using.
I hope that covers all of it. Sorry, but I've been busy and haven't had a chance to do much else or check on new posts. Hopefully I can get back into more car-time this summer!

Re: My rear differential installed
Ended up dropping diff & reinstalling with torque arm, made install much easier. New question, did you get willwood brakes on rear, if so do you know what e brake cables, the stock camaro w/ rear disc or are they something different?

Re: My rear differential installed
Very clean install. I purchased and installed my 12 bolt this past year also. It is a big investment but it's reassuring to know when you get into the throttle nothing is going to break. No need to install torque arm when installing, you can just use a jack under the front of the diff to adjust up and down tilt. Either way will work.
