Torque converter help!

So I am having my 700r4 rebuilt, again, and I am looking for stall speed options. Its a 91 GTA 5.7 TPI. Mod list is as follows: Shorty headers, msd6al ignition box, emissions delete, hooker supercomp cat back, 9 bolt 3.27 rear, panhard and lcas. Tune is crappy and will need retuned. I was running a 2k stall and not happy with launching it vs the stock converter. My mileage also dropped 4mpgs, but probably tune related. The people im ordering the TC from recommend either a 2300 or 2600 and my trans guy is recommending a 3k. Not much daily driven, but will make a 3hr drive once a year, and I drive aggressive on the street. Will be a street strip car. I have a tru cool 40,000 BTU cooler as a stand alone.

Re: Torque converter help!

3000. Definitely. But get a quality one. There's not much worse than a poor quality high stall converter.

Supposedly it's been replaced with a "baby" cam, but I highly doubt that. So I am assuming stock. Rather not have to tear apart to check. I understand that the TC is directly related to the cam specs.

Re: Torque converter help!

I have a 3000 in my (mostly) stock 86 LB9 and I love it. It has a tiny peanut cam in it. 9 bolt with 3.70 and a Torsen. Lots of fun. Don't worry about it - go with what your trans builder is telling you.
