Swapping motor and trans.
I'm going to be swapping my motor and transmission to a 350 and ether a m20 muncie or a Saginaw speed and was wondering if I would run into problems with the driveline fit or if it would fit fine or well enough to use it for a while.
I have a 1989 firebird base model with the 2.8l v6

Re: Swapping motor and trans.
There is no Muncie with torque arm provisions, so that will cause trouble.
The Saggy is a total POS in every imaginable way. Avoid it if at all possible. And of course to fit one of these cars, you'd need the 82-only version of that, with the torque arm provisions.
Both of those transmissions would require the 82-only drive shaft; or, that you have one custom made.

Did something happen to the Engine Swap sub-forum?
Coulda sworn we've discussed every angle of compatibility to the ultimate conclusion.
When someone says they're going to use any trans that wasn't offered in a 3rd or 4th gen car, I have to assume they haven't looked very hard before asking questions.

15 years later, the sticky topic still has the basic answers.

8. If the transmission you are using didn't come from a 3rd or 4th gen f-body, you're going to need some means of mounting the torque arm.
