Governor weight

Governor weight
My 92 Bird has a little problem, it shifts VERY early into 3rd gear. Got me thinking about the governor. The car was a former V6 which I converted to a 305 TPI last year with a complete donor car and I've rebuilt the engine, but not the transmission. Everything is bone stock, 100% swap with every little piece except for the AIR system, this is gone. Donor car also was a 92 model year. I don't know if anyone messed around with the transmission. It works fine except for the early shift into 3rd. My 88 GTA doesn't do that. It shifts like a charm. GTA also bone stock, but a 350 engine. Does anyone know here which weights are mounted into the governor from the factory in the 92 model? Or can I buy a complete stock new governor anywhere? The rearend is a 3.23 posi from a 92 GTA, the rearend on the donor was a 2.73, maybe that has something to do with the early shift points?
I know, I could swap the governor from my 88 into my 92, but the 88 is 100% unmolested and has just 20k miles on the odo, it is in showroom condition and I just don't want to mess around with it. Maybe some guru here knows something about these governor magic.
Thank you!

Re: Governor weight
Lighter governor weights will make it shift later.
Weight sets are available, as well as complete governors. Everybody's favorite is the "Corvette" version.
You can also just drill holes in whatever is there to lighten them.
You should also look into a larger boost valve, and a Corvette (or aftermarket) servo.

The ZZ3/4 conversion instructions covers the 700r4 trans upgrades that should be done to 'enhance' the low output trans. The GM part numbers are included in the parts list, but it's an old document, they may have changed.

Re: Governor weight
Make sure that the TV Cable is tight at WOT. Have someone sit in the interior and push the gas pedal slowly to see if you have WOT. Then adjust the TV Cable till it is tight. If the shifts are better, however still a little early, take out the governor and remove the weaker of the two governor springs. This will make part throttle shifts later. Benn doing this for well over 20+ years.

Re: Governor weight
Sorry for the thread hijack, but I've searched for the answer to this and have yet to find a definitive answer. I swapped 2.73 gears for 3.23 gears and also have done a TPI conversion with headers and cat delete. Part throttle upshifts could be a little higher, but are reasonable. WOT, though, are not. 1-2 upshift at 4,200 and 2-3 at about 3,800. Would like to get those up closer to 5,000 (4,800 would be sufficient). Is there a specific "stock" governor that I could swap in? How could I verify a governor from a 3.23 gear LB9/auto transmission vehicle?

Now I see the original rear end (gear) was changed too,...... The GOV from a 2.73 tranny/rear should be changed when the gear is changed to anything 'quicker' than 3.08. If you still have access to the original V6 tranny you could try using the Gov from that tranny as I'm sure it will provide better shifting than the Gov from a 2.73 set-up. ( V6 Tranny Gov was probably used with a 3.42 rear. )

Re: Governor weight
Yes, the donor car had the long 3.08 gears and my former V6 has now the rearend from a 92 GTA, which is posi and 3.23 gears. I should have known that I had to change the governor, damn... I sold the V6 transmission a few days ago. I ordered a B&M governor recalibration kit and now I think I have to play with the weights for getting it back to factory like it was before with the V6... DAMN!
