Carrier bearing stuck - any tricks to get it off?

I'm using a cheap bearing separator, the kind that you wrench down on. got one side out, other side is stuck. afraid to wrench down on it any more, it is bending so much its about to break. even if I could put this thing in a press, it appears a jig would need to be made. not really down for cutting the bearing and using a sharp chisel method. about to go crawling to a drive train shop and ask them to remove it for me. if I was them, I'd charge double after seeing that I had manged to get the other side out, they know I'm desperate!

any other suggestions on how to break this beast loose?

grinding it is easy, just dont go all the way through past bearing race, smack it with a chisel and it will crack and slide right off, I got tired of fighting mine lol, was way easier grinding it off.

Bearing splitters are not last-forever tools.

I think you're tightening so the splitter jaw presses under the inner bearing race, and have no press?
Measure your splitter and see if the jaws are both hitting the carrier. If not, keep tightening.

Also, the splitter under the roller cage sometimes has enough to pull the inner race off (or to just rip the cage apart. lol) If you lack a press, using a 2-jaw to pull on the splitter can work sometimes.

Grinding and chiseling off is legit. It just takes time. Keep at it and get it done.

Do you have a torch ? Remove the cage and bearings so you can be sure you are dealing with the inner race. Tighten up the splitter so it is applying pressure and then heat up the inner race. Concentrate the heat to one area. When it expands it will pop just slightly and you will probably hear it. An oxy acetylene would be best, but propane or mapp can work. I do this in a small 12 ton press with various items. If I feel that I am abusing the press and the item is just not releasing. I apply pressure and then some heat. Also with a recessed race I have used a welder to just weld a little spot on the race and when it cools it shrinks enough to just fall out. If all else fails the grinding and chiseling dose do the trick.

Use a tiger torch, it'll get it warm enough but not too the point of melting anything else

I did try this almost exact, except I didn't heat in one spot and didn't remove cage and bearings. was heating with propane torch. luckily, I'm in no hurry, its T-top driving season in Austin right now.

So if the cage and bearing are removed you can concentrate the heat in one spot and get the expansion you want. If you distribute the heat, it will transfer and everything will expand.
