After searching for hours reading conflicting answers, I am hoping someone can chime in here and point me in the right direction.
1990 Camaro convertible
-Purchased bare hawks 8.8 case and moser 31 spline axles and LT1 backing plates.
Before i press everything on.....
DO I NEED A SPACER BEFORE THE BEARING?
My understanding from reading is the LT1 brakes need a 1/8 spacer prior to the bearing and press ring going on the axle shaft. If this is the case I dont know why hawks wouldnt have sent it to me with my purchase. Very frustrated with this 8.8 should have gone S60...
..
I have. Twice. Bruce called me back and gave some insight on installation but I still don’t have the 1/8 spacer. If i need it why wouldnt they send it with the axles? Additionally e-mailed sales and asked for some sort of instructions clearly stating where it goes for this set up and got no response. Their customer service leaves something to be desired.
Can't you just get a 1/8" C shaped spacer that will fit over the axle? That way it wouldn't matter when you install the axle bearing or if you need the spacer.
I was thinking of the retainer in my post above. I think this is what the original poster was talking about. Wanted to post this in case someone finds this post when doing a search
