th-350 swap

I am planning on swapping a th-350 into my 83 firebird when i drop in a freshly rebuilt 350. I was wondering what i need to do the swap. Right now i have the 200c so my drive shaft will work with a short tail shaft th-350. i know b&m makes a kit for installing a th-350 but itsn't it for going from a 700r4 or a 200r4? will i need to make any brackets? i have acess to a machine shop so i can do some fabricating if i need to.

No, that kit should have everything you need.

Does anybody know if there is any web sites that show you how to build the brackets. I have heard the b&m kit is extremly simple. Thats why they wont let you return it.

it is simple, might take you a bit of time, depends on what your times worth. i'm sure you could return it if you copied it. the guys at jegs have let me measure and look parts over. wouldn't hurt to try if you wanted to save a few bucks.

this is what i learned from doing my own swap. If you have a 200c tranny in your car now, the driveshaft AND crossmember will be right for the th350 swap. If your running a 700R4 like i was, then you'll need a 3" longer driveshaft. The B&M kit includes the bracket for the torque arm AND a plate for your tranny mount to properly line up with the crossmember. You'll need to drill out the rivets to take one of the torque arm mounts off the old bracket to mount on the new bracket (don't remember if it was the inner or outer. Then you'll have to get a new GM mount for the inner or outer piece of the torque arm mount (again i don't remember, did the swap a while ago). Personally i don't think the B&M kit is that great. I mean it does the job, but i had to grind the hell out of it to get it to bolt onto my th350 tailshaft, and still provide room for speedo cable. I guess it's just not built to exacting tolerances.

B&M large tailshaft bracket has bolted to my 76 th350 car tranny perfectly so far, not alot of room for speedo cable hookup though,

the small screws/bolts for the inner rubber torque arm mount cushion are wrong and dont even work with the small holes they have drilled int he large main bracket, i used some self tapping screws from GM truck firewall heater box, the ones for ground strap, they work good. are 3/8" head and self tapping end, ou need two,
