Centering rear wheels in wheel well front to back.

I'm almost done installing a moser 9 inch rear end. Last piece of the puzzle is ordering my new driveshaft. I am setting up everything pinion angle, centered left to right, and front to back. This is so I can get the correct length prior to ordering. Issue...

I have adjustable lower control arms and have shortened both about an inch from stock to center the axle in the wheel well. This doesn't seem right... from the factory are the tires an inch or so toward the back of the wheel well? If someone with a factory car could give me dimensions that'd be great. Front edge of wheel well to center of axle tube/tire and rear edge wheel well to center.

Car on stands under the axle, right?

Then adjust till you are centered.

Understand you need to load the tq arm down so the pinion is correct, will change your rear a fraction or so.

Center is center, right?

Thank you for the response. Im out in the garage now and I agree and can now answer, factory is near dead nuts center with the 19-5/16 in length. Im glad I walked away last night and came back with a clear head. The issue I found was my mock installation of the LCA lowering brackets. I had them leaning forward and not straight up and down. Im glad I didn't weld them in last night!

These are the spohn units and now that I have them correctly mocked up the LCA swings down and axle is perfectly centered. They match the arch well.

I'm now happy with everything and can order up the driveshaft. Getting close! She's been under construction for two years.

Yes, a clear head and a cold beer does wonders

2 years is nothing...don't ask

Two years is not necessarily accurate, that's my recent adventure with the car. I bought it back in 2002 and daily drove it. It's been a toy since about 2007.

Recent adventure is a fresh 383 rebuild, T56, to a nine inch. Shooting for mid 11s with sticky tires and a shot of nitrous. Hopefully it goes better than last time! Two bolt main, stock bottom end, whoops. The pic is my actual rod result.

It came with LCA brackets, actually how I figured out I had the LCA lowering brackets in at an incorrect angle. With the wheel centered it was 19.25in from the frame bolt while the lowering bracket holes were 18.5. This is what the issue was the entire time.

Don't know who you're going with but I had PST build me a drive shaft after I put my 9" in. No complaints so far
