Rear Planetary Gear replacement.

I picked up a 700r4 to rebuild as a back up, I've been learning a lot and would appreciate some advice. Yall have a lot of good info on the site and searching it for an answer right now.
But I wouldn't mind if someone who knows could respond to my question.
The lower planetary gears have taken a dump in this trans. I can get an older 4l60e for parts (next to nothing).
If I wanted to swap the lower planetary gears and reaction gear/shaft from the 4L60e into the 700r4. Is there anything I need a heads up on?
I plan on checking the end play to ensure it is in tolerance.
Would appreciate any advice so I don't learn the hard way on this one.

Re: Rear Planetary Gear replacement.

There's a note in the 4L60E Update manual of reports of broken rear planetary ring gears. There's no specific reports of an upgraded ring gear part but some time in later production, the part number for the ring gear had changed. The assumption is that this is an upgraded part, P/N 8667055.

On another note, the 5-pinion front and rear planetary sets from a 4L65E is a direct swap.

Re: Rear Planetary Gear replacement.

So if you can put a 5-pinion planet into a 4l60e and a 700r4, then I should be able to put a 4 pinion planet from a 4l60e into a 700r4?

Re: Rear Planetary Gear replacement.

Just use the 4 pinion setups from GM. They are superior to the 5 pinion planetaries. They are made of better material. Make sure you add the Viton input to output shaft seal instead of the plastic one. Everything is interchangeable here, except the output shaft, which does not have a governor gear on it.

Re: Rear Planetary Gear replacement.

Thank you sir, appreciate the advice too.
This is my 3rd 700 to go into, knew the 4l60e was probably the same gear. Just never messed with them to know for sure.
Thanks again.
