700R4 spraying fluid

At the weekend, just cruising about at about 50mph there was suddenly loads of smoke out of the back end. I slowed to a stop, thinking it was an engine problem but it was running fine but when I set off again I had almost no drive at all. When I got out and checked, the tranny was pumping fluid out of the front of the fluid pan with the engine running.

The pan isn’t loose, so I assume the gasket has blown in spectacular fashion and very suddenly as it wasn’t leaking any fluid at all previously.

Is it likely to be anything other than just the gasket blowing or do you think I’ll get lucky?

Re: 700R4 spraying fluid

The fluid is probably coming from the pump seal.

Wouldn’t that spray fluid from the bellhousing rather than from the pan?

It would run down and look like it's coming from the pan most likely. I agree it's probably the pump seal.

It’s 100% spraying from the front lip of the pan in 2 jets from near the 2 outermost bolts when the engine is running.

Well I would suggest a new pan gasket then. Never seen such a failure. Must be a really cheap gasket or something.

Yeah, I’m half expecting it to be just sealant or something. I’m in the UK so waiting a week while my gasket is shipped across the Atlantic.
