4th gen alum. driveshaft swap

In an effort to lose weight ( and rotating weight at that ) have acquired a low mileage 4th gen alum driveshaft. It is a perfect fit and works well. The one thing that was different is a harmonic balancer type of thing on the front yoke of the 4th gen shaft. The yokes appear to be the exact same size, shape, and form. In fact you can kinda see where this thing could be pressed onto the old yoke.

With the goal originally to be weight loss, and the old shaft did not have one. Can I remove this part? it would easily save another couple pounds. This is a track day car only. Could care less about damping harmonics out of the chassis, or long term wear.

Do you have a picture? Im aware of the balancing weights but not a dampener.

Re: 4th gen alum. driveshaft swap

My understanding of the purpose of the front damper was to reduce noise.
