Anyone know of good prices on 3.70 gears for 9-bolts??

Just wonder'n if the prices have come down recently for rearend gears and where would be a good place to find a 3.70 ratio replacement? I currently have a sick 2.77 ratio in my 9-bolt and I want my car to pull faster in 3rd gear. Another reason I wanna do this soon is because my cousing just got a new Ram Air TA with an auto, and I want to at least be able to hang.

go here: http://www.geocities.com/mek88427/nine_bolt.html

Miles is the resident 9 bolt expert and can explain why you want the factory Aussie 3.73 instead of the 3.70. Also, you will need a new carrier for 3.27 or above.

Remember that the TPI or SR engine makes torque, I would consider upgrading to a 3.45 instead so you don't spin the engine out of its powerband.

Good luck.

Thanks for the website. $450 for the gears and install kit is still kind of high but, but has anyone purchased gears from here or have any experience with them? I thought about a 3.45 ratio but the engine pulls strong up to 6000rpms so I thought maybe a 3.73 ratio would be a better match, especially when I put on a set of drag radials. Anyone else have any opinions?

Depends on whether this is a street or track car.

Street car go 3.45, track go 4.10.

It all depends where your powerband is. My 406 will see a ~5600 rpm redline cause it makes all kinds of torque. This engine with a carb ran great in a car with 2.56 gears because it was always in its powerband (lots of torque).

Without seeing what other mods you have, its tough to tell.

My car is going to be a street car for sure with an occasional trip to the track every week or two once it opens. My other mods are Spohn control arms and subframe connectors and I'm getting ready to install a Pro-Kit spring set. When the track opens I'll have relocation brackets and a new adj. torque arm. Gas mileage isn't a concern either, that's why I was thinking 3.73's. 88TPI, do you know anyone who's purchased gears from the site you posted?

No, not personally. But since Miles is local to the Minneapolis area and belongs to www.mnfbody.com, I have seen him around. He imported these parts recently from gm australia and hence the higher price. I have a 9 bolt and will go this route if the carrier goes bad (125k on it so far).

He has a built 454 running on a 9 bolt and has rebuilt a few, so email him for info. A 9 bolt should be enough for the street with a few drag trips.

I mean, really what are your other options? A standard 10 bolt has its issues and a 9 inch or 12 bolt is a LOT of money. I think that the 9 bolt is good to low 12's/high 11's from what I hear.

The gear sets (up to 4.10) and series 3 posi carriers are OEM tooled/mfg'd components. Install kits are aftermarket. The other parts (and future parts) are mine. Currently available parts are on my page listed above (thanks ) at www.koolmeister.com

Miles

PS I also have used 9 bolt parts available. E-mail with your needs.
