Broken shift button rod

Hey y'all,

The rod that connects to my shift button has broken. I've been looking for a replacement and see that there are different plastic rods. Some are flat (like mine) and some are round. On eBay, they show as being for different years. Do they all work regardless of year? Would one from an '90 Z28 automatic work on my '85?

Thanks in advance!

Stick to the flat bar. The button has a clip on it that snaps onto the flat portion.

Are you suggesting that because I would have to change the shifter **** and button or because the whole assembly won't bolt in correctly? FYI: I don't mind changing the shift **** and button.

Re: Broken shift button rod

The later button/**** are integral and uses a U clip on the side to to hold down the ****. Early types w/ the ball/button that separate use a c-clip under the button to hold the **** in place. The two are not compatible, unless you swap the whole shifter assembly.
