Car won’t go into park

Hello,
I just bought a 92 Camaro RS and have been working through it slowly. Today I took off the center console to clean it. After I put it back together the car will not turn over now. It seems like the car is not reading that it is in park and the temp gauge shoot all the way to the right when I turn the key. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The temperature gauge is supposed to peg to full hot when you turn the key to the start position as a "Gauge test", so that's normal and not a part of your problem.

If you didn't take the shifter apart, perhaps you knocked the switch that's mounted to it loose somehow (or perhaps it's wiring connector).

Try this, WITH YOUR FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, AND THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED, put it in neutral and try to start it. If it still don't start, move the shifter slightly back & forth around the neutral position while holding the key to the start position.
