Axle spline count?
Axle spline count?
New member,I have an 88 iroc my brother is currently putting together. It has the G80 rearend code and I want to replace the axles with strange engineering components but I am unable to narrow down the spline count by researching online. Can anyone tell me based on the fact that it is the G80,10 bolt, posi, limited slip, what is the likely spline count for the axles?

Re: Axle spline count?
Yup, 88 is almost certainly 26-spine, if the rear is original to the car. Transition began in the latter part of 89 production and was mostly but not quite entirely complete by the beginning of 90 production in these cars and others (e.g. S trucks) equipped with this model of axle.
Before spending money on 26-spline GARBAGE, check to see if his "G80" is still any good. VERY VERY VERY FEW are. It's most likely an Auburn; total POS, totally non-rebuildable, TOTAL GARBAGE. And that would be the GOOD possibility, since the other possibility would be the Gov-Bomb aka Grenade-Lock. Let's hope it's not that.

It would be the height of UTTER STUPIDITY to buy axles to fit that, then discover it's worthless, then realize that there's basically NO 26-spline carriers available, because nobody wants that GARBAGE, THEN have to go re-buy all 28-spline stuff.
In case you can't tell, I'm encouraging you to encourage your friend to update to all 28-spline stuff. New carrier along with the axles.
