T5 Shiftboot retainer

I have the Pro 5.0 shifter from Hawks. M16X1.5. What are you using for a shift boot retainer? Can't seem to find any in that size.

I had the Pro 5.0 in my car, not sure what a shift boot retainer is.

You should be able to reuse all your stock stuff. The rubber trans mount seal and the shift boot in the console.

Re: T5 Shiftboot retainer

I'm referring to securing the leather boot to the bottom of the shift ****. It's sloppy and always falls down. Usually is a jam nut type of setup. I think i'll fabricate something.

There is not any sort of ring or retainer on the stock boot.

Really, it was just a sloppy mess like that?

Re: T5 Shiftboot retainer

I think the stock shifter had a ridge on it to keep it secured. I have run both the Pro 5.0 and now a Tremec with the T56 and I don't have the issues you are describing. Do you have a picture? The Pro 5.0 shaft is pretty short and you can buy an even shorter stick to help with with anything showing.

I'm likely just being picky. I'm going to try a custom piece to hold it up and if it works I'll put up some pics. You are right, the stock shifter had a ring on it.

My car is manual conversion with a new repro shift plate/boot. The vinyl is still pretty stiff and basically stands itself up.

Maybe stick a thick o-ring or two on the shift lever? I don't think any of the cars I've owned had the boot attached to the shift lever.

Re: T5 Shiftboot retainer

My car didn't have anything of the kind. The boot was leather, and the handle just kinda protruded through it.

The threads you quoted sound rather like the shifter **** threads. In my case, I changed to the Hurst shifter on the T-5, then later a Hurst T-56 shifter, both with some sort of fairly small thread for the **** like 3/8"-24. The ***** that came with both of those looked like cold leftover yesterday's BUTT, especially compared to the stock leather(ish)-covered one, so I made a bushing by drilling out an inch or so of a bolt that was the same thread as the stock ****, and threaded the inside of that to make a bushing; Loctited the bushing onto the shifter handle, and screwed the stock **** onto that. M16-1.5 sounds close to the stock **** threads.

But no, no "retainer" of any kind for the boot. I don't even think that would have been possible, especially with the stock shifter, which was STUUUUPID tall and had interference problems with the roof.

Re: T5 Shiftboot retainer

I have a rubber cone under the boot that keeps it snug to the shifter ball. T5.0 from Hawks.
looks like a suspension bushing of sorts.
