I just picked up a BW 9-bolt posi rear with 2.77 gears from my local Salvage Yard to rebuild with the TLVL 3-series carrier for my 1989 GTA. From what I can see, the only gears available are 3.70. Is this truly the case? I wanted to rebuild it with either 3.27 or 3.45 to go behind the WCT5 trans, but it seems these ratios are non-existent. Can you guys confirm? Or point me to a source?
Interested if anyone has a good used set lying around collecting dust as well...
Thanks.
Interesting indeed, I've been following...
I just brought home (today) two rusted out BW 9-bolt rears, both with 2.77 gears and the older '85-87 disc brakes. I've never rebuilt a rearend, but I've got a couple rebuilds to knock out in my future! I already ordered a TLVL from Dave at Supa-F Spares last week and just minutes ago I ordered a 3.45 gear set from 9-bolt.com. I've heard 9-bolt.com isn't active anymore, but my order went through, so we'll see. If anyone is interested in some highway 2.77 gears, hit me up!
I'm stripping down one of the housings tomorrow and will be having it powder coated before I start the rebuild. In the meantime, I'll get everything ordered from Ratech. Thanks to General Disorder, KeyKey, and others!
In the states, only 3.70 ratio gearsets are available. 9-Bolt.com is out of Australia and has other ratios they can get, assuming they are still active. Also will need a 3-series carrier.
If you can’t source the parts from 9-Bolt.com, you may be better off finding a GM 10 bolt rear and building that.
Just to eliminate any doubt, 9-Bolt.com is still active! I hesitantly ordered a 3.45 ring and pinion gear set from them via Paypal on their website and it actually showed up today! No other comms other than shipping confirmation. I now have two spare 9-bolts, both with Delco Moraine brakes, a set of 3.45 gears, a set of 3.27 gears, and two sets of 2.77 gears. One 9-bolt has the smaller pinion bearing and came with the 2.77 gear set. Both disassembled now, but I'm definitely going to rebuild the "common" pinion bearing rear with the 3.45 gears.
The 2.77 gears are available if there's any interest - LMK. I think I'll keep the two spare 9-bolts for future projects...LOL!
