T-56 vs. T-5
What's the biggest advantage of a T-56 vs. the T-5? I already know that the 6 speed has a better overdrive ratio. But what I want to know is there any other big advantages are there? I can get a T-5 for around $1000 or so complete with all necasary hardware and stuff. I know a T-56 runs around $1500 or so. I would really like some feedback from people with both!!!
Thanks

Why? So you can say "yeah i have a six-speed"
. On a practical note, the t-56 is a much stronger gear box than the t5. There's a reason GM didn't offer the T5 with the 5.7 TPI engines. You're risking it if you stick a T5 as-is behind any real power. And by the time you build it, you've equalled if not surpassed the cost of a t56, and you don't have that 2nd overdrive for highway driving with those big rear-end gears (3.73+).

Let me get this straight
toosloz.... are you saying that your L69 305 laid a whopping on a modified 355 and regular L98's?????
I want to see what you have done to that 305! :hail: hehehe

While the mustang got a T-5 it got a different T-5. The mustang version has a different case, input shaft and output shaft. If I remember right it is rated a little higher than the Camaro/Firebird model which is only rated at 320 for the World Class design.
Not only can you cruz down the highway easier, it holds more power so you can put more mods in it. My plan is too put one in a while... I would say for the money you can't beat that price. I would put it in. There is only one negative your car will be slower off the line. I think a t-5 has a 2.95 and the t56 only has a 2.66 that is the only negative!

Re:
I went from T5/3.08's to T56/3.42's. I still have the LB9 but am going cammed L98 sometime soon. Gotta go with the T56. I have a complete spare T56 setup for sale. Oops, this isn't classifieds though. Now, I just wish I went 3.73's, but 4.10's may come with the L98. LAter

gearing
The gearing in T-56's changes depending what you go with. I think the '93 camaro version had a 3.66 first gear!!! and '94-'97 have a 2.66 first gear, but can with stand more power. I believe after market 6 speeds have different gearings as well. Either way, you won't be sorry after it's installed. You just have to match your rear gear to the particular tranny.
